Path Changes
I felt the need to work with deities from other pantheons. I also was feeling that I had been neglecting my magickal workings somewhat, as CR does not place as much significance on witchcraft as does Wicca. Of course, being an independent person, I have to approach Wicca from an eclectic standpoint. I don't necessarily agree with all aspects of this spirituality, but what follower of any belief system does? I tend to think more in terms of polytheism rather than duo theism. I don't necessarily believe you can always adhere to the "harm none", but I understand the concept.
In the almost 10 years I've been practicing the Craft, my path has gone through many metamorphoses, and I'm sure that will continue to happen. This particular movement was nudged along by Janet Farrar & Gavin Bone's book, "Progressive Witchcraft", which I recently re-read. It demonstrates how Wicca can evolve to meet the needs of the current day followers of this faith.
I really don't want to make a big deal of this change, but I thought I might offer some insight to those that might notice the shift in my path.

Spring Nuisances
No one is happier than I to welcome the warm weather we've been experiencing the past couple of weeks. It seems the older I get, the less I tolerate the winter months. January and February seem to last forever.
That said, during the winter months when you are pining for spring, one tends to forget about the pests of the warmer months. This week our area got hit with what are called fungus gnats. These things are tiny, and can fit through window and door screens. Open your house up, and the next thing you know you are invaded by thousands of these things! Apparently this phenomenon will be short lived, but in the meantime, neighborhoods are alive with the noise of air conditioners as no one wants a house full of these pests.
Of course pretty soon we will be slathering on DEET repellent to ward off the mosquitoes carrying around the West Nile Virus, and I'll be waging war with the yearly migration of tiny ants that seem to really enjoy finding a way in the NW corner of our house. I play nice with those ants at first, using herbs and essential oils that repel them, but somehow they overcome the obstacles and we are forced into calling the professional ant and spider (another by-product of spring and fall) fighters...ok, killers....
So these are a few of the pesky perils of the warmer weather. But in the scheme of things, they are forgotten when you can throw on a t-shirt, a pair of shorts, slip your feet into some sandals and go outside. Sure beats hats, gloves, scarves, coats, sweaters, and boots.
Happy Spring Everyone!
Me
I'm a 47 year old male witch. I've been practicing witchcraft for 10 years, starting with Wicca, taking a darker path for awhile, then practicing a form of Celtic Reconstructionism after I found that comfortable path. I probably practice more magick than many CR's, but I enjoy it.
I like working with herbs, essential oils, gemstones and candle magick. On certain days I'm the greenest witch you ever met, and on others I might be more of a dark witch. I have great reverence for the earth and have concerns about our treatment of it. I consider all the earth sacred, I cast no circles, do no banishings, or concern myself with man written witchcraft "laws".
I'm pretty much a normal midwesterner who happened to be lucky enough to question my birth religion, and find a new life in Paganism.
